Cross Country practice next week - Thanks to the Lorimers - New web site - Committee changes - The season so farCross Country practice next week
Cross Country Practice on Sunday 10 July - if 20 or more people express an interest (ring Helen 07789 427427 or Will 07787 951218) by 5pm on Friday 8th. A charge of £6 for unlimited rounds (in turn and safely). The recent rain should just soften the ground nicely! See schedule or web for rules.Thanks to the Lorimers
THANK YOU to Hannah and Bethany Lorimer and their Mum, without whom the show jumping would not have taken place this season. They really have saved the club! Please remember this and say thank you on July 17th.Emma Bramley will be running the show jumping for our last show on 22nd August - thank you too, Emma.
New web site
If you haven't already checked out the new web site then please do. You will find all the latest information about our activities and many useful tips on competing and helping. The site is now updated regularly and many thanks are owed to Piers Connor for this work.Committee changes
It is with regret that I announce Dawn Kitchen will be resigning from the committee at the end of this season. I am sure all the parents and under 12's will agree with me when we say what an asset Dawn has been to the club and how badly she will be missed.The outcome is that we need one or preferably two people to take on the Junior section of the club and nominations will be sought for the AGM in November. Please bear in mind that this section of the club will cease to operate if no-one steps forward and it would be sensible to work with Dawn for the rest of the season so you are not starting cold next year.
Other Committee Changes - I am very pleased to announce that Tracey Asher will be co-opted onto the committee to help with the showing with immediate effect. Tracey enjoyed being a steward so much she decided she wanted to carry on learning about the various aspects of showing and the different horse societies that are involved. We can look forward to seeing more events like the Veteran Horse Society area qualifiers next season.
Stevie Cooper, David Taylor and Sally Taberer have volunteered to help organise the show jumping next season. However, we will be appointing judges to design the courses and run the classes on the day, for which we will pay a small fee. If you would like to be the show jumping judge at one of the shows next year please let me know.
The season so far
After a disappointing start to the season, cancelling the first show and the cross country, we have gone from strength to strength. The shows have been well attended and the dressage numbers pushing above our maximum.There are a couple of things to remember when competing:
- Classes do occasionally clash and it is important the class stewards know where you are and what you are doing so they can let you in the ring late or allow you to leave early - with this knowledge, every effort can be made to accommodate you.
- The rules of the club are written down and competitors must obey them or be eliminated. In every class, the decision of the judge on the day is final even if this is a different decision from a previous judge. Rules can only be changed by formal agreement at the AGM.
Happy riding

List of last year winners - Dates for the 2005 season - Committee - Show jumping crisis PLEASE HELP - What happened after the AGM?List of 2004 Winners
Congratulations to all last seasons points winners! - A full list of 2004 winners and places to 3rd along with the trophies awarded is available. All the trophies are perpetual trophies and need to be engraved and returned in September 2005 but the trophy rosettes are for you to keep. If you have not yet collected your trophy or rosette please contact Christine (01509 674003) and arrange to do so before the end of February as they will be recycled after that time.Having finally sorted out the trophies, it is apparent we are missing several from the cross country section - fortunately these were not required this year but please look in your cupboards and attics as we are hoping to be able to award them this year.
Dates for the 2005 season here.
Also attached is the membership renewal form, you will note there has been no increase in membership fee this year and we are proposing to keep the class fees the same too.
Committee
Committee resignations - sadly, Jackie Bailiss and Beccy Carney have resigned from the committee leaving a large vacancy in the show jumping discipline. Many thanks to them for their valiant work last year. The club now has no-one to organise show jumping classes. The duties of the committee member/s running a discipline are outlined here. If you can help with some or all of this please contact me asap - it is preferable for 2 people to take on this duty and that these people are able to plan and delegate tasks to spread the work load. The remaining committee members will help with contacts and advice as best they can.Please note the committee needs 12 people to operate efficiently but now consists only of seven, plus Michael Freestone as honorary treasurer still doing much more than he should, having resigned over a year ago! Many of you have offered to help with secretarial work and that is wonderful - I will be contacting you in due course :-). Please join the committee there is lots to do - the showing also needs a caretaker!
What happened after the AGM?
The changed format meant many more people heard about the business of the club, especially the difficulty in organising helpers for the shows. Four new suggestions were made as to how help could be encouraged;1. Adding £10 to membership to be refunded when members help (as Rearsby do);
2. Awarding points to people who give up competing to help (so that regular competitors do not lose out in the points totals);
3. Members nominating a non-rider to help in their place;
4. Not qualifying for the year end points if not helped the two times required for membership.
These issues caused some debate and some confusion and several very useful comments were made to committee members after the meeting. We have decided to have another go at running the help list in its current form but I will be doing the ringing round instead. Number 3. will stand and you will be invited to nominate someone to help if you wish, the other options we will not be implementing at present.
There is no news yet about the planning application for building on the show field or what this might mean for the club - watch this space :-(
A change to the show jumping rules was agreed wherein a novice may now only compete in the novice class and the novelty class.
On a good note - several judges have spoken to me to compliment the club on the politeness of the competitors at our shows as well as the superb field. Thank you all - judges give up their time for the love of horses and to encourage the sport - there is nothing more disheartening than rude, ungrateful competitors - well done!
With the good wishes to you all for the New Year and coming season

Show jumping crisis
Show Jumping - as yet no-one has come forward to take over the show jumping and our first show is rapidly approaching (4 weeks time!). This begs the questions "What do we do if there is no show jumping?- do we run the shows without it? - can we still charge the same membership?" Please let us know what you think - as soon as possible. The existing committee cannot run this event, we already have the juniors, the caravans, 2 showing rings and the working hunter classes to manage between 7 of us on the day.Latest on the show field - the land owner was granted permission to build in principle but has decided not to go ahead with his plans at present. This is good news for the club as we can look forward to more seasons using the wonderful fields at Sutton Bonington.
